Resumen de Trilhas e atalhos na trajetória do afro: transfigurações da negritude no carnaval de Salvador

The 1970s are usually considered to be the starting point of modern black agency and refl exivity in the carnival of Salvador, Bahia. This period gave birth to Afro-centric carnival groups denominated blocosafros, whose emergence constitute the most emblematic example of Afro-Brazilian culture as a contemporary social vector. Through them, Negritude was transfi gured, based on the appeal of brilliance, force, and beauty. The entry of Afro-Brazilian musical production into the pop circuit triggered changes in the productive structure of artistic creativity. This article seeks to contribute to refl ections over this complex dynamic, focusing on the relationship between Afro-Brazilian-ness as a cultural vector and the agency of a wide variety of organizations (including the media) that in some way shape its appearance. It concludes by suggesting that the role of the blocos-afros in giving visibility to songs that address Afro-Brazilian-ness has been diminishing, while at the same time, mainstream pop bands are increasingly including this type of composition in their repertoires, thus becoming new vehicles of the expression of AfroBrazilian-ness.

Costuma-se tomar o advento dos blocos afro, nos anos 70, como o marco inicial de uma atuação negra refl exiva/moderna no Carnaval de Salvador. Esta forma de organização carnavalesca é a realização mais emblemática do afro como vetor cultural contemporâneo, em que a Negritude é transfi gurada em torno do apelo de brilho, força e beleza. A entrada da produção musical afro no circuito pop vai acarretar modifi cações na cadeia de criação artística. O artigo pretende contribuir para a refl exão sobre esta dinâmica complexa, problematizando a relação entre o afro como vetor cultural e as diversas agências organizacionais e midiáticas que de alguma forma regulam o seu aparecimento em cena. A conclusão aponta para uma desvinculação progressiva entre a enunciação do afro e a centralidade do bloco afro neste processo, já que a veiculação dos artistas emergentes dos ambientes dos blocos afro, hoje, cabe às estrelas da axé music.
