  • Resumen
    • The article examines the spatial structures in Claude Olliers La vie sur Epsilon (1972), which describes the failed exploration of an unknown planet. Epsilon is a barred and uncontrollable space whose emblematic sign is a gigantic labyrinth of boulders. For modelling the desert’s surface, Ollier uses patterns and principles of optokinetic art (resp. Op Art) developed in the 1950s and 1960s. These patterns are intended to irritate systematically both vision and sense of balance. Epsilon is characterized by an oscillatoric space-time-arrangement that changes permanently between stabilization and instabilization, freezing and fluctuation. With the distancing effect of an extraterrestric planet Ollier exemplifies in an abstract way the construction and deconstruction of spatiality and temporality as well as the shifting of space in time and vice versa
