    Conrad Malte-Brun naquit au Danemark en 1775. Il dut s'exiler et vint à Paris. Attentif aux progrès de la science, il s'intéressa aux sciences géographiques et fut l'un des fondateurs de la Société de Géographie. Secrétaire Général, il donna les directives pour les activités de cette "compagnie savante". Ses contemporains l'appelaient "le premier Géographe moderne". Son fils, Victor-Adolphe, comprit l'importance de la conception neuve de la Géographie par son Père et porsuivit l'oeuvre de Conrad.     Conrad Malte-Brun was born in Denmark in 1775. When exiled he went to Paris. Aware of the progress of Science, he took great interest in geography as a science and was one of the founders of the "Societe de Geographie". When senior secretary, he gave instructions concerning the activities of that "compagnie savante". His contemporaries said he was the first modern geographer. His son, Victor-Adolphe, understood the importance of his father's new conception of geography and carried on his work. He wrote a new edition of Conrad's "Précis de géographie universelle".
