Las campañas que el Ejército español libró contra las cabilas de Marruecos entre 1909 y 1927 condicionaron de forma decisiva la política y el debate público en la España de esos años. Es por ello que los principales intelectuales de entonces difícilmente pudieron abstraerse de participar en un debate en el que la opinión pública esperaba que se posicionasen. Sus valoraciones eran a menudo seguidas por aquellos que los tenían como referentes y criticadas por los que defendían posturas contrarias, pero su prestigio social hacía que no pasasen desapercibidas.
The campaigns fought by the Spanish army against the Kabyles of Morocco between 1909 and 1927 decisively conditioned the political and public debate in Spain in those years. That is why the leading intellectuals of that time could hardly avoid participating in a debate in which public opinion was expecting their views. Their evaluations were often followed by those who had them as references and criticized by those defending opposing positions, but never went unnoticed thanks to their social prestige.
