The problematic relationship between government regimes and the passions and human tendencies to wage war State against State, suppose an array of tensions that were approached by classic philosophers of the Modernity like Montesquieu, Kant and Hegel. In this presentation, we offer a comparative study on the virtues, crosses and possible contradictions and critiques that arise from the points of view of these authors. It will be of our interest to distinguish both their methodological procedures as well as the ways in which each of these authors characterized the notions of republicanism, the law of nations and the insertion of the State in the interstate system, among other issues. We will also explore the treatment of such issues in addition to the predisposition of certain type of states to war against others, in parallel to the tendency of other regimes to peacefully associate in a confederate way. The choosing of these authors is because of the importance they exerted in shaping contemporary philosophical-political thought, and especially due to their influence on the design of republican principles, conception of state theories and international legal systems of the present time.
