    El pintor Gaspar de Quevedo es la figura más interesante de la pintura canaria del siglo xvii, pero aún quedan muchos datos por descifrar de su vida y, sobre todo, de su formación en la Península. Precisamente en 2016 se han conmemorado los cuatrocientos años de su nacimiento sin haberle hecho el debido reconocimiento. En este contexto, nos acercamos a la encrucijada formal y cronológica que supuso su obra a través del cuadro La oración en el huerto, para trazar las claves definitorias de su estilo, verdadero cruce de caminos y punto de inflexión de la plástica canaria del seiscientos, estableciendo conexiones con otros pintores coetáneos, indagando en sus influencias y analizando su trayectoria.

    The painter Gaspar de Quevedo is the most interesting figure of Canarian painting of the 17th century, but there are still many data to decipher from his life and, above all, his formation in the Peninsula. It is precisely in 2016 that the four hundred years of his birth were commemorated without due recognition.In this context, we approach the formal and chronological crossroads of his work through the painting The Agony in the Garden, to draw the defining clues of his style, true crossroads and turning point of the Canarian art of the century, establishing connections with other contemporaneous painters, investigating their influences and analyzing his trajectory.
