    This work aims to reflect on the essence of language according to Martin Heidegger. Then, we intend to legitimize a reading that understands language in a metaphysical dimension, capable of situating it as being the fruitful space from which the reality is originally established; therefore, it is the genesis of the world, of meaning, of life. We believe that the Heideggerian phrase "Language is the house of being" means an ontological identification between being and language. Moreover, in this sense, everything that exists, everything that is, only "is", exists because it can be said – therefore we insist: language – the house of being is the foundation from which the real emerges. Together with the effort to catch a glimpse of this archaic dimension of language, we will also be pondering the danger to man of distancing himself from this radical dimension.     Este trabalho tem como objetivo refletir acerca da essência da linguagem segundo Martin Heidegger. Pretendemos, com isto, legitimar uma leitura que compreende a linguagem numa dimensão metafísica capaz de situá-la como sendo o espaço fecundo desde onde originariamente se instaura a realidade; ela é pois, gênese de mundo, de sentido, de vida. Acreditamos que a frase heideggeriana “A linguagem é a casa do ser” significa uma identificação ontológica entre ser e linguagem. E, neste sentido, tudo o que existe, tudo o que é, só “é”, só existe, porque pode ser dito – por isto, insistimos: a linguagem – casa do ser - é o fundamento desde onde emerge o real.Junto ao esforço pelo vislumbre desta dimensão arcaica da linguagem estaremos, também, ponderando acerca do perigo que significa, para o homem, um distanciamento desta dimensão radical.
