  • Resumen
    • The "Dying Gaul" counts among the great masterpieces of classical art, and, as such, has become the most frequently illustrates image of an ancient Celt. Yet the sculpture embodies an etnic stereotype, one that has rarely been compared with self-representations of the same people.

Images ofCeltic warriors therefore can serve as a test case for a more "global" approach to the ancient Mediterranean. Such an approach aims to connect and critique evidence now divided among the disciplines of Celtic, Greek, Etruscan, and Roman art, with the goal of recovering a broader and more nuanced range of perspectives on conflict.
