    La Enfermedad de Alzheimer (EA) y la demencia Semántica (DS) tienen perfiles neuropsicológicos similares en sus primeras etapas. Por tal motivo, diferentes estudios han centrado su atención en establecer las características de las alteraciones en ambas patologías; concluyendo que si se em-plean baterías neuropsicológicas sensibles a la función de memoria semántica, es posible establecer la diferencia entre la DS y la EA. Sin embargo, aún falta mayor claridad en cuanto al tipo de fallas que se presentan en la memoria semántica en ampos tipos de patologías, pues no hay estudios con resultados claros en cuanto a las altera-ciones clínicas que se pueden presentar. El objetivo del presente artículo es realizar una caracterización de las alteraciones neuropsicológicas que se presentan en la DS y la EA, con el fin de aportar exactitud al establecimiento del perfil de estas enfermedades. Este texto inicialmente retorna al-gunas generalidades de EA y DS, posteriormente se revisan estudios empíricos que han tratado de determinar los perfiles neuropsicológicos diferen-ciales entre estos dos tipos de demencia.

    Sernantics dementia (DS) and Alzheimer's disease (AD) have similar neuropsychological features at th.eir early stages. For this reason, several studies have focused their attention on establishing the characterist.ics of the alterations in both pathologies and found that, ifneuropsychological batteries sensitive to the role of semantic memory are deployed, it is possible to establish a difference between the two diseases. However, there is still a significant lack of clarity concerning the type of problems that take place in the semantic memory in both illnesses. The purpose of this article is to make a cháracterization of the neuropsychological alterations that occur in both DS and AD, in arder to better distinguish these diseases. The article presents sorne generalities of DS and AD and reviews empirical studies that have sought to determine the differences between the neuropsychological prof les of these two types ofdementia..
