This article presents the impact that Habeas Data law, as an economic policy instrument, has had over Pereira's credit system during the years 2008-2009. The purpose of the article is to illustrate the relation between economic and monetary policy determinations and Habeas Data law, a legislation that was adopted to improve the credit system. The article concludes that Habeas Data law cannot be regarded as having being adopted to address economic crises. In essence, the law was enacted to protect citizens' fundamental rights under the Colombian Constitution.
