    En este trabajo se analiza el comportamiento que ha tenido la especialización en las Micro, Pequeñas y Medianas Empresas (MiPyMEs) del sector manufacturero en las cinco regiones en las que se divide el país, para los años 1999 y 2003.

    Con tal propósito se hace una estimación de índices de especialización, diversidad y competencia de estas unidades de estudio. Asimismo, se realiza una medición del efecto que estos índices tienen en la tasa de crecimiento del empleo manufacturero de las MiPyMEs, así como el impacto en la generación de empleos de la Región Centro-Occidente a la que pertenece el estado de Aguascalientes. Los resultados muestran que la aportación de estas unidades productivas al empleo estatal del sector manufacturero no es homogénea por entidad federativa. Por su parte, el índice ligado a la competitividad presentó una relación positiva con la tasa de crecimiento del empleo manufacturero de las MiPyMEs, mientras que el peso que pudiera tener alguna de las cinco regiones del país en la generación de empleo manufacturero por este tipo de empresas no es significativo.

    The objective of this paper is to analyze the dynamics that the specialization has had in the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the manufacturing sector of the five regions in which the country is divided, for the years 1999 and 2003.

    For this purpose it is an estimate of specialization indexes, diversity and competence of these units of study. Also, the effect that these indexes have on the rate of growth of manufacturing employment in the small businesses were measured, as well as the impact on employment generation by the Central West Region that belongs to the state of Aguascalientes. The results show that the contribution of these production units for employment within the State in the manufacturing sector is not homogeneous through federation across the country. On the other hand, the index linked to the competitiveness showed a positive linkage with the rate of growth of manufacturing employment in the Small and Medium Enterprises; however the impact of manufacturing employment that could have generated any of the five regions of the country for this type of firms is not significant.
