Considering the symbolic universe as a primordial element of human life, this assay deals with the cultural heritage and the judgments involved on selection and preservation. The purpose of this article is to address the importance of the figure of the expert-technician agent and its dealing with public heritage assets, since such agent seems to have the capacity / legitimacy to look after said assets. Based on the assumption that there is a set of such agents coming from specific disciplines, their could direct the selection of assets of a determined nature to be treated as heritage as well as the preservation techniques to be applied in relation to them, the main objective of this article is to provide a reflection about the colonial background which seems to surpass the dynamics of the heritage field through the figure of the experts.

Partindo de uma provocação sore o universo simbólico e a necessidade de considerá-lo como elemento primordial à vida humana, o presente artigo trata sobre o patrimônio e as escolhas, os juízos, que envolvem a seleção e a preservação de bens culturais. Recorre, portanto, à importância atribuída à figura do técnico-especialista no trato com o patrimônio, seja na esfera do Estado ou no museu, enquanto agente que parece reunir a capacidade/legitimidade de nomear e tratar o patrimônio. Partindo do pressuposto que há uma concentração de agentes provenientes de específicas disciplinas que se revelam responsáveis, ou se consideram exclusivamente aptos, à condução da seleção de bens culturais e das práticas de preservação desses bens, o artigo, em formato de ensaio de natureza teórica, reflete sobre as relações de colonialidade que parecem atravessar as dinâmicas do campo do patrimônio a partir da figura dos técnicos-especialistas.
