Situación actual del bosque de niebla en el estado de San Luis Potosí, México

    En este trabajo se analiza la distribución y diná- mica espacio-temporal del bosque de niebla del estado de San Luis Potosí. Éste se caracteriza por su restringida distribución geográfica en todo el país, además de estar severamente amenazado por las actividades humanas. Dicho ecosistema se localiza en la región fisiográfica de la Sierra Madre Oriental, entre los 1,000 y 1,600 m de altitud, sobre un sustrato geológico de lutita y caliza-lutita;

    y tiene una extensión de 3,239 ha distribuidas en ocho relictos, resultado de una alta deforestación y fragmentación. En los últimos 35 años se han perdido 2,868 ha, y en algunos relictos las tasas de deforestación fueron superiores al 3% anual. Aunque algunos de los fragmentos se ubican en áreas de alta prioridad para la conservación, ninguno se encuentra oficialmente protegido.

    This paper analyzes the distribution and dynamics space-time of cloud forest in the State of San Luis Potosí, Mexico. This forest is characterized by the restricted geographical distribution throughout the country, as well as being severely threatened by human activities. This ecosystem is located in the Sierra Madre physiographic region, between 1,000 and 1,600 m of altitude, on a geological substratum of shale and limestone-shale. It has an extension of 3,239 hectares distributed in eight relicts. Thisforestshowsahigh levelofdeforestation and fragmentation because in the past 35 years it has lost over 2,868 hectares of forest. In some of these relict areas, deforestation rates were higher than 3% per year. Even though, some of these relicts are located within areas of high priority for conservation, none is officially protected.
