This exploratory case study reported the planning, implementation, and assessment of an international internship undertaken in a Taiwanese company by an American university student who was operating independently abroad. The model required the student to establish learning objectives, self-assess language use and learning strategies, and engage in critical reflection. Weekly oral journals and pre/post language proficiency test results revealed substantial progress in Chinese linguistic skills and deeper professional knowledge.
