Resumen de Monitoreo del desembarco de pesca artesanal en el Estuario del río Chone, Ecuador, entre octubre 2013 y enero 2014

  Entre octubre de 2013 y enero de 2014 se realizó un monitoreo del desembarco de pesca artesanal de lanchas con motor en Bahía de Caráquez (cantón Sucre), situada en el Estuario del Río Chone. El objetivo era elaborar un diagnóstico de la situación del recurso pesquero y las artes de pesca artesanales, que sirva para proponer medidas de manejo sostenibles. Durante los 24 días de monitoreo se desembarcaron 4 402,3 libras de pesca. Se identificó un total de 34 especies y las 5 especies más abundantes fueron sierra (Scomberomorus sierra), pámpano (Trachinotus sp.), guapuro (Polydactylus approximans), corvina (Cynoscion sp.) y pinchagua (Opistonema libertate). La especie con mayor peso desembarcado fue la sierra del Pacífico, que con 1 600 libras alcanza el 36,6 %, y triplica el peso de la segunda especie más abundante, el pámpano, con 511,5 libras (11,7 %). Se monitorearon 57 pangas y las cooperativas de pescadores artesanales de las cuales las más activas fueron las de la parroquia Leónidas Plaza; siendo el sitio Cabuyal el área de pesca más frecuente. El arte de pesca más utilizada fue el trasmallo 3 1/2“, en 20 de las 57 pangas monitoreadas.

  Between October 2013 and January 2014, a monitoring of the landings of artisanal fishing motorboats was performed in Bahía de Caráquez, located within the Chone River Estuary. The objective was to make a diagnosis of the state of artisanal fishery resources and fishing gears in the estuary that eventually would serve to propose sustainable management measures. A total weight of 4402.3 pounds of fish was landed during the 24 days of monitoring. 34 species were identified and the 5 most abundant species were sierra ( Scomberomorus sierra ), pompano ( Trachinotus sp.

  ), Pacific threadfin ( Polydactylus approximans ), Peruvian weakfish ( Cynoscion sp.

  ) and thread herring ( Opistonema libertate ). The most abundant species was the Pacific sierra reaching 1600 pounds (36.6%), three times the weight of the second most abundant species, the pompano, with 511.5 pounds (11.7%). 57 motorboats were monitored and the most active fishermen unions were located in Leonidas Plaza, Cabuyal being the most common fishing area. The most commonly used fishing gear was the trammel net 3 1/2 “ registered in 20 of the 57 motorboats monitored.
