Resumen de Ictioplancton y peces del estuario del río Chone, Manabí, Ecuador, durante enero 2006 marzo 2007

  Esta publicación presenta los resultados del análisis de muestras de ictioplancton colectadas desde enero del 2006 hasta marzo del 2007 en 10 estaciones ubicadas en el estuario del río Chone. Representa gráficamente la distribución mensual de las familias más abundantes, así como las variaciones de los parámetros físico- químicos registrados en las mismas. Incluye ilustraciones fotográficas de juveniles colectados mensualmente con red de hiperbentos en una estación fija en Leónidas Plaza y enlista ordenes, familias, géneros, especies y nombres comunes de los peces monitoreados en la pesca artesanal. Los huevos y larvas más numerosos correspondieron a las familias engraulidae, scianidae y gobidae. Las más altas densidades que se evidenciaron en estaciones próximas al océano sugieren que los desoves ocurrieron preferentemente hacia la parte externa del estuario y desde allí el ictioplancton fue transportado por las corrientes de marea hacia el interior del mismo. Las mayores concentraciones se evidenciaron en el último trimestre del año, coincidiendo con los valores bajos de salinidad, anómalos para la época, que se presentaron debido al flujo de agua dulce proveniente del embalse “La Esperanza” cuando empezó a funcionar una planta de generación hidroeléctrica ubicada en la misma. Para verificar los hallazgos referidos en la presente investigación, es recomendable realizar un nuevo estudio, por cuanto la planta ha dejado de funcionar.

  This publication presents the results of the analysis of Ichthyoplankton samples collected from January 2006 until March 2007 on ten stations located in the estuary of the Chone river. It graphically shows the monthly distribution of the most abundant families, as well as the physical-chemical parameters registered on them. Photographic illustrations of juvenile fish collected monthly from hyperbenthos in a fixed station in Leonidas Plaza and a list of fish from the artisanal fishery are included, identifying by order, family, genus, species and common name.

  The most numerous eggs and larvae corresponded to the family engraulidae, scianidae and gobiidae. The higher densities that were found in stations near the ocean suggest that the spawning occurred preferentially towards the outer part of the estuary and from there the Ichthyoplankton was transported by the tides toward the inside of the estuary. The highest concentrations were apparent in the last quarter of the year, coinciding with the low values of salinity, unusual for the time, which arose due to the flow of freshwater from the ‘’the Esperanza” dam, when it began to operate a hydroelectric plant located in the same area. It is recommended to carry out a new study now when the plant has stopped working, to verify the findings referred to in the present investigation.
