Resumen de Cambio climático y desarrollo turístico. Efectos de los huracanes en Cozumel, Quintana Roo y San Blas, Nayarit

  El desarrollo turístico en las zonas de estudio se ha enfocado principalmente en el desarrollo de las actividades relacionadas sobre la línea costera como resultado de la diversidad de sus recursos naturales prístinos, los cuales facilitan el turismo de sol y playa, el cual recibe el mayor número de visitantes en los estados de Nayarit y Quintana Roo. Estas zonas son vulnerables ante la amenaza constante de huracanes y tormentas tropicales. Durante el periodo de 1931 a 2008 se han presentado 60 huracanes, de los cuales el 57% se han originado en el Pacífico. Por el cambio climático, se espera que los huracanes se incrementen tanto en frecuencia como en intensidad, lo que afectará directamente al sector turismo. Este artículo realiza un análisis comparativo de los impactos de los huracanes Kenna y Wilma en el sector turístico de San Blas y Cozumel durante 2002 y 2005, respectivamente.

  Entender los riesgos de las amenazas provocadas por el cambio climático permitirá la formulación de adecuadas políticas de desarrollo y medidas de adaptación.

  Tourism development has focused primarily on the development of recreational activities on the coastline as a result of the diversity of pristine natural resources that facilitates the sun and beach tourism, which receives the highest number of visitors in the states of Nayarit and Quintana Roo. These areas are vulnerable to the constant threat of hurricanes and tropical storms. During the period of 1931 to 2008, sixty hurricanes have ocurred, of which 57% have originated from the Pacific Ocean. Due to climate change, it is expected that hurricanes will increase both in frequency and intensity, which will directly affect the tourism sector. This article makes a comparative analysis of the effects on tourism and environmental effects of Hurricanes Kenna and Wilma, which struck the coasts of Nayarit and Quintana Roo in 2002 and 2005 respectively. This helps to understand the consequences of the threats caused by climate change, specifically hurricanes, and will enable the formulation of appropriate development policies and adaptation measures.
