  This essay provides an overview of the conceptual aspects of the protected natural areas (NPAs) of Mexico, describing how many they are, where they are and how they are sectored. It describes the history of their creation in our country, and the evolution of its administration up to date. This essay allows the reader to have basic general elements that contextualizes and gives fluidity to the following contributions.
