    El presente trabajo aborda la cuestión de cómo contribuyó el Partido Socialista Obrero Español a definir el modelo de nación y de Estado que se impuso en España durante la construcción del Estado de las Autonomías. Tras la Constitución de 1978 este había quedado abierto, a merced del devenir político, y fue en aquella etapa cuando se hicieron evidentes ciertos cambios en los planteamientos del PSOE en torno a la cuestión nacional, que culminaron con los Acuerdos Autonómicos, firmados junto a Unión de Centro democrático en julio de 1981. Desde una perspectiva que entiende aquella etapa a partir de una evolución y una adaptación a los retos de la nueva coyuntura y no como una ruptura respecto a los presupuestos anteriores, intentaremos explicar cómo se fue enfrentando el PSOE a los mismos y que tensiones existieron a la hora de desarrollar una política que se encaminó cada vez con mayor claridad hacia la armonización del sistema autonómico.

    This paper addresses the question of how the Spanish Socialist Party contributed to the definition of the model of Nation and State that succeeded in Spain during the construction of the State of Autonomies. Successively the Constitution of 1978 this had been open, at the mercy of the political future, and it was at that stage that certain changes were made in the PSOE’s approaches to the national question, culminating in the Autonomous Agreements signed with the Union of Democratic Center in July 1981.Since a perspective that understands that period from an evolution and an adaptation to the challenges of the new conjuncture and not as a rupture with regard to the assumptions on which it was based, we shall try to explain how the PSOE was in front of the same ones and which tensions occurred in the development of a policy that headed clearly towards the harmonization of the autonomic system.
