Resumen de Carcinoma escamocelular de la piel de alto riesgo: definición, diagnóstico y manejo

El carcinoma escamocelular es la segunda neoplasia más común en la piel; algunos de estos tumores tienen un comportamiento agresivo y pueden llevar a metástasis y recurrencias locales. Los carcinomas con este comportamiento se han catalogado como de «alto riesgo», pero la definición y los criterios no están claramente establecidos y no hay consenso entre las diferentes guías mundiales. Al diagnosticar un tumor de alto riesgo, se requiere un abordaje y tratamiento más agresivos, buscando altas tasas de curación y menores recurrencias. Esta revisión busca tratar de estandarizar las diferentes definiciones del «alto riesgo» y actualizar conceptos sobre el diagnóstico y tratamiento de este tipo de tumores de piel.

Squamous cell carcinoma is the second most common cancer of the skin; some of these tumors have an aggressive behavior and can lead to metastasis and local recurrences. The carcinomas with this behavior have been termed «high-risk», but the definition and criteria are not well established and there is no consensus in the different guidelines worldwide. When a highrisk tumor is diagnosed, an aggressive approach and treatment are required, seeking higher rates of complete remission and less recurrences. This review seeks to standardize the different definitions of «high-risk» and actualize concepts about the correct diagnostic approach and treatment in this type of tumors.
