The golden period of the discoveries about the Cactaceae family in Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil) and Uruguay is analysed. Several new species were found by enthusiasts, mainly from German-Brazilian backgrounds, as well as by European immigrants who crossed the furthest corners of the region.
É abordado o período áureo das descobertas de Cactaceae no Rio Grande do Sul e Uruguai. Muitas espécies novas foram encontradas por entusiastas, sobretudo descendentes de alemães, bem como por imigrantes europeus que percorreram os mais longínquos rincões da região.
