Estimates suggest that the world average is 241km of road network for every 1,000km[superscript]2, while in Latin America the figure is only 156km. The lowest network coverage is in South America with 145km for every 1,000km[superscript]2. In Central America it is slightly higher at 209km[superscript]2 per 100km[superscript]2, whilst in the Caribbean the road network exceeds 630km[superscript]2 per 100km[superscript]2.
Grame Barty, general manager for Growth and Emerging Markets, Austrade, Australia, recently said, "While China will dominate Latin American economies for the next 15 years through natural resource super cycle demand, both Latin America and Australia have to look beyond the single market that is China and find new markets." In 2013, Sydney-based Latin American advisor, Jose Blanco, said, "Latin America is the leading region for mineral investment, attracting 27% of global spending in 2013, with Mexico, Chile, Peru and Brazil, between them, scoring 21% of global mining investment."
