La guerra, vivida por sus protagonistas, es una fuente constante de relatos. Sin embargo, no siempre se describen los hechos y las acciones con la misma visión. El contrastar las versiones de aquello que dan distintos personajes e, incluso, las que ofrece un sólo sujeto del mismo hecho en distintas fechas, nos permite acercarnos un poco más a la verdad histórica. La guerra que enfrentó a España y Francia con Inglaterra —entre 1779 y 1783— y, concretamente, el teatro de operaciones americano, es un buen ejemplo de esta variedad de versiones y de la necesidad de contrastarlas y analizarlas con rigor histórico.

The war, lived by his protagonists, is a constant source of statements. Nevertheless, not always the facts and the actions are described by the same vision. To confirm the versions of those that there give different prominent figures and, even, that one offers only subject of the same fact in different dates, it allows us to bring us over a bit more to the historical truth. The war that faced Spain and France with England —1779 – 1783— and, concretely, the american theatre of operations is a good example of this variety of versions and of the need to confirm them and to analyze them with historical precision.
