Resumen de El fruto del deseo: Connotaciones sexuales de la mandrágora desde egipto hasta la edad media

En este artículo se analiza, desde el punto de vista iconográfico, el fruto de la mandrágora y su asociación con la sexualidad y el erotismo, así como su aplicación terapéutica en el terreno ginecológico. Contiene una primera parte dedicada a su presencia en Egipto, una segunda dedicada al ámbito grecorromano, y una tercera a la Edad Media, de modo que sea posible ver las conexiones entre la Antigüedad y el mundo medieval, y observar las reinterpretaciones de la tradición científica y artística a lo largo de la historia occidental.

This paper is an iconographical analysis of the mandrake fruit, its association with sexuality, and its therapeutically application in gynecological practices. The first part describes the presence of the mandrake in Egypt, the second part deals with the transmission of this specimen in Greek and Roman times, and the third part focuses on the Middle Ages. In that way, it is possible not only to understand the connections between Antiquity and the Middle Ages, but also to pay attention to the reinterpretation of scientific and artistic tradition throughout the Western history.
