  The last few years have seen a growing number of publications of French political party militants. These publications may be divided into four main categories : scientific studies, Personal accounts, books by journalists and unpublished académie research. Militancy is considered either from theoretical angles or from more descriptive socio-demographie and psycho-sociological viewpoints. The themes adopted include the causes of militancy, militant practice and behaviour. and the specifie characteristics of militants depending on the organisation to which they belong. It is noticeable. however, that there is a pancity of studies dealing with the mechanisms of party affiliation and the factors involved in militancy, and that there are gaps in those that do exist.

  On a assisté ces dernières années à une multiplication des publications sur les militants des partis politiques français. On peut classer ces publications en quatre grandes catégories : les études scientifiques, les témoignages, les livres de journalistes et les travaux universitaires non publiés. Le militantisme est étudié soit à partir d'approches théoriques, soit à partir d'approches plus descriptives socio-démographiques et psycho­sociologiques. Les thèmes retenus sont les raisons du militantisme, les pratiques et les comportements militants, les caractéristiques spécifiques des militants selon l'organisation d'appartenance. On notera pourtant la relative rareté des études et leurs lacunes en ce qui concerne les mécanismes de l'adhésion partisane et les facteurs du militantisme.
