Resumen de Roland Barthes et l’« image d’auteur »: Ecrits posthumes et hommages amicaux

After announcing the death of the author, Barthes stressed the reader’s need for the author’s “figure”. This article aims at grasping the effects of such a paradox, by exploring the images of the self projected by Travels in China and Mourning Diary on the one hand, and, on the other hand, by the tributes from close friends who mean to reveal what kind of man the author really was. We must grasp the ways in which an image of the self, whether spontaneous or elaborated by close relatives, forms, as verbal elaborations which contribute to mythologizing an image of the intellectual from the 1970s-1980s we want to know everything about.

Après avoir proclamé la mort de l’auteur, Barthes insistait sur le besoin qu’éprouve le lecteur de sa « figure ». Pour saisir les effets de ce paradoxe, cet article explore les images de soi que projettent, d’une part, Les Carnets du voyage en Chine et le Journal de deuil, et d’autre part les hommages des proches qui entendent dévoiler l’homme réel. Il s’agit de tenter de saisir les modalités selon lesquelles se tisse une image de soi « spontanée » ou apprêtée par les intimes, autant de constructions verbales qui contribuent à la mythification d’une image d’intellectuel des années.
