Resumen de What role for new neurons?

J.R. Minkel

  • This article reports that adult rodents form more new neurons than usual when places in spacious habitats with toys and running wheels. Researchers therefore supposed that neuron formation also caused the decreased anxiety and the enhanced learning and memory brought by richer environments. However, when the hippocampal region in mice was irradiated, they performed just as well, suggesting neurogenesis is not responsible for the effects of an enriched environment.
