  • The article reports on medical trials of the drug TGN1412 manufactured by TeGenero, based in Germany. The drug was expected to activate immune cells other antibody drugs could not activate on their own. When the drug was given to six previously healthy volunteers, they all became very ill. One patient went into a three week coma, and may loose parts of his fingers and toes. Experts emphasize the need for caution when designing new drugs through biotechnology.
