The article reports on the collaboration of General Motors, DaimlerChrysler and BMW to develop new technology called a two-mode hybrid to challenge Toyota's lead in the hybrid car market. Unlike the single mode Hybrid Synergy Drive by Toyota, the two-mode hybrid offers more fuel efficiency both in the highway and stop-and-go traffic, producing a 25 percent improvement in combined mileage as compared to standard models.
