  • Resumen
    • This article focuses on power plants that rely on coal to generate electricity and ways to prevent carbon dioxide generated in the process from reaching the atmosphere. Because coal is cheaper than oil and natural gas, its popularity for power generation grows, but coal produces large quantities of climate-changing carbon dioxide. New gasification facilities can more effectively and affordably extract carbon dioxide so it can be safely stored underground. Carbon capture methods must be implemented, the article argues, to stave off global warming. INSETS: COAL'S TOLL;THE PATH TO CO2 MITIGATION.
