This article comments on a dispute between economist John R. Lott, author of "More Guns, Less Crime," and economist Steven D. Levitt, author of "Freakonomics." Lott filed a defamation lawsuit against Levitt because Levitt wrote that Lott's findings that crime went down in states with "carry and conceal" laws could not be replicated. Levitt claims crime went down after Roe v. Wade because less children, and potential future criminals, were being born to impoverished and adverse environments. At the root of the problem is in what context the word "replicate" is used, and what it means.
