  • This article discusses the work of the Great Internet Mersenne Prime Search (GIMPS), which is a volunteer network of computers that work to calculate new prime numbers. A prime with 13 million digits discovered through this network is noted. This discovery won a prize from the Electronic Frontier Foundation designed to promote the use of distributed computing.
