  • This article discusses research, published in the journal "Biology Letters" indicating that plants release methane as part of their metabolic cycles. Chinese scientists captured the methane emissions from grasses and used that to develop data on the potential contributions of these plants to the greenhouse effect. The possibility that some alpine shrubs absorb methane rather than emitting it is also noted.
