  • The article discusses an announcement from the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) referencing research that found the soil of Mars to contain perchlorate and water ice. The author discusses how perchlorate can assist in the life of certain types of microbes. These findings have resulted in a five-week extension of the Mars Phoenix lander mission.
