  • The article reports on research performed at Georgetown University Medical Center which found that while general anesthetics suppress the central nervous system during surgery, they may also interact with specific proteins on nerve cells, which could lead to increased pain in patients when they wake from surgery. Changes in anesthesiology which could result from the research are discussed.
