  • The article reports on the initial success of the United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Mars Phoenix lander, which arrived on Mars on May 25, 2008. The robotic vehicle has transmitted pictures of the Martian terrain's northern plains and begun gathering soil samples for analysis, although the clumpy dirt of Mars has proved difficult to work with.
