La prise en charge des animaux tramatisés crâniens est encore sujette à certaines controverses. Elle comprend des traitements pharmacologiques ou non, systémiques et plus spécifiques. Une stabilisation extracrânienne, comprenant une fluidothérapie et une oxygénation de l'animal, voire la mise en place d'une ventilation assistée, ainsi que la gestion de la douleur sont primordiales. Puis la stabilisation intracrânienne inclut principalement l'utilisation de fluides hyperosmotiques et l'instauration d'une thérapie anticonvulsivante. En médecine vétérinaire, la prise en charge des animaux traumatisés crâniens reste le plus souvent médicale, même si des options chirurgicales sont parfois possibles.

The management of head injured animals is still subject to some controversy. Management may or, may not, include systemic and specific pharmacological treatment. Extracranial stabilisation, including fluid therapy and oxygenation of the animal or the stablishment of assisted ventilation, as well as pain management are paramount. Then intracranial stabilisation is provided, which mainly includes use of hyperosmotic fluids and the provision of anticonvulsant therapy. In veterinary medicine, the managment of animals with head injury remains mostly medical, although surgical options are sometimes possible.
