While the sound still echoes of the commemorations of the capitulation of the Catalan capital in 1714, this article presents highly detailed information on the exemption made for the convents of Barcelona of import tax on wine produce. The exemption, known as “refacció eclesiàstica”, was called into question by the royal taxation system, while the mendicant orders unanimously refused to pay indirect taxes, which thus caused various tensions between the Catalan ecclesiastics and the new Bourbon taxation policy.
