En este artículo se analiza el cam-bio en la imagen del mundo y laconstrucción y evolución de Europay de los nuevos territorios descubier-tos que tuvo lugar durante los siglosXVI y XVII y que dejó como testimo-nio importantes obras cartográficas,impresas y manuscritas, teniendo sumáxima expresión en los atlas.El desarrollo de la cartografíaen la Edad Moderna nos permitemostrar, gracias a los descubrimien-tos geográficos, avances técnicos,inventos, etc., una imagen del mun-do más científica, asistiendo en elsiglo XVI al nacimiento y auge delas naciones que poco a poco van air definiendo su identidad cultural,todo con un claro objetivo: conocer,controlar y dominar el mundo.Además, esta imagen del mun-do que se va creando nos permite lacomparación y análisis con los terri-torios actuales, examinando su evo-lución, sus cambios, sus fronteras,etc. Todo ello para llegar a una con-clusión: el mapa del mundo no es es-tático, está en continuo cambio

In addition, this image of the world that was created allows comparison and analysis with the Territories today, examining its evolution, its changes, borders, etc. All of this brings us to a conclusion: the map of the world is not static, it is in constant change
