  • The article presents information on research into the mechanisms by which the inhalation of asbestos causes lung damage. A protein complex known as the Nalp3 inflammasome was implicated in the process, as it is triggered by the asbestos particles and causes inflammation of the lungs. Nalp3 is also involved in immune reactions such as gout.
