  • The article reports on theories about the deficit of ultrahigh-energy cosmic rays (UHECRs) observed coming from the Virgo cluster of galaxies, a group of approximately 1,000 large galaxies some 60 million light-years from Earth. Whether this is due to a statistical fluke, or is a clue to the origins of UHECRs, is a question astronomers are attempting to address. UHECRs are the fastest-moving material objects known to exist.
