  • The article reports that industrial-style fishing is wiping out many species like cod and bluefin tuna. Increasing scarcity is pushing prices for some fish into the thousands of dollars. The Monterey Bay Aquarium runs Seafood Watch, an online effort monitoring Atlantic fish populations. The aquarium suggests consumers avoid endangered species, using their economic power to force restaurants, supermarkets and the fishing industry to pay more attention to marine life sustainability.
