  • This article examines the change in thinking about medical patients by their race or ethnic group to their biological variation. Evolutionary medicine explains why sometimes a gene will cause disease while in a another person it may prevent it. As humans spread out from Africa, variations in genes occurred that remain today, so ancestry is more important than ethnicity to determine treatment options.
