Resumen de The possibility to say: What can Radovan Ivšić’s texts say to today’s readers?

Tvrtko Vuković

  • The paper considers the potential influence of Radovan Ivšić’s literary texts on today’s readers. It primarily relies on psychoanalytic literary criticism that seeks to analyze the relationship between the reader’s desire and the text’s rhetoric. The first chapter is an interpretation of two mutually exclusive processes: the retroactive formation of Croatian surrealism in literary history and the suppression of surrealism as well as the suppression of Ivšić’s work within the Croatian culture. The second chapter controverts two differently oriented critical readings of Ivšić’s works Narcissus and Sun City. It aims to show the extent to which Ivšić’s writing resists these types of interpretation. Finally, the third chapter is a reading of the poem Narcissus which strives to identify the cognitive or ethical events which can be triggered by its reading.
