  • The article reports on the hesitance of various venues to house the outdoor sculpture "Device to Root Out Evil," by Dennis Oppenheim. It is reported that Stanford University's Cantor Center for Visual Arts agreed to purchase the piece following its presentation at the Venice Biennale art festival in 1997, but that concerns over the sculpture's subject matter ultimately prevented the purchase. The rejection of the sculpture by the parks department in Vancouver, British Columbia is also noted.
