Resumen de La transmisión cinematográfica de la leyenda de Fernán González: El valle de las espadas , de Javier Set

En este artículo se realizará un análisis de la película El valle de las espadas (1963), adaptación de la leyenda épica de Fernán González. Se encuadrará esta película en el listado de adaptaciones literarias y teatrales del relato, y se defenderá la pertinencia de su inclusión atendiendo a diversas relaciones teóricas establecidas entre cine y literatura. Se partirá del concepto de «esquema argumental» para sostener metodológicamente el análisis, y se expondrán las diferentes vías de configuración tipológica del personaje a lo largo de la historia literaria española. Se comparará el argumento de la película con sus fuentes medievales. Por último, se propondrá el estudio de las divergencias en la adaptación desde una perspectiva pro-nacionalista que acentúa el anacrónico carácter español del personaje.

In this paper, we will study the film The Castilian (1963), an adaptation of the epic legend of Fernán González. We will place this film in the list of literary and theatrical adaptations of the legend since the Middle Ages to XXth century, attending to some theoretical connections between cinema and literature. We will use the concept of «recurrent arguments» in order to sustain our analysis, and we will expose the ways of typological configuration of the character throughout the story of Spanish literature. We will compare the film’s synopsis with it’s medieval sources. Finally, we will propose the study of the divergences in the adaptation since a nationalist perspective, that accentuate the anachronic Spanish personality of the character.
