The fragment in D. 5.1.48 (Paul. 2 resp.) recalls a Hadrian's constitution about the relationship of local magistrates in office with disputes in which they have an interest: it seems appropriate to propose an exegesis, which is close to the preserved text and confirmed from the interpretation of Bas. 7.5.47. Recipients and field of application of the provision are explored with a reflection about the linguistic and the regulatoriy practices of the emperor Hadrian in his relationship with the land of the Oriental provinces.
