  • The paper concerns the text included in the Justinianic Code (C.9.4.12) and the legal rule formulated there (vanae voces populi non sunt audiendae), placed on the columns of the Supreme Court building in Warsaw. It presents the meaning of the quoted formula as an indicator of independence of judges from the voices of public opinion. The author related also the sense of the legal maxim vanae voces populi non sunt audiendae to contemporary legislation that should not be swayed by the pressure of public opinion and politicians.
