Resumen de Il primo Adami

Luca Pietro Nicoletti

  • The first Adami.

The article retraces the education of the painter Valerio Adami (Bologna 1935), between 1958 and 1964, on the basis of archive documents and period catalogues, locating it in the Milan context of studies around the "Nuovo Racconto", of which Bepi Romagnoni was a leading figure between 1961 and 1964, with effects flowing into contemporary painting. Indeed, one sees a transformation from a beginning marked by Surrealism, influenced by the lesson of Sebastian Matta, to the appropriation of images from mass culture. Interweaving the developments of artistic research with critics' interventions and declarations of poetics by the artists, the adhesion to a common thought is apparent: artists found themselves in particular harmony with the critics who represented them (primarily Enrico Crispolti and Emilio Tadini) on the problems of the "story" in painting and the objective "relation" with the surrounding time and reality. At the same time, the article focuses on the figure of Adami as a unifying element between artists and critics, as shown in particular by his correspondence with Crispolti and Giuseppe Marchiori in the appendix.
