Resumen de Libros para la administración de bienes en los hospitales de Sevilla

Los hospitales sevillanos gozaron de un importante patrimonio para la subsistencia de la institución y de sus enfermos.
Para ello, la oficialía puso en funcionamiento mecanismos de control que sirviesen para una provechosa gestión de sus rentas y derechos, ideando instrumentos capaces de preservar sus posesiones y ponerlas en explotación. El presente artículo trata de identificar los elementos definitorios de estos libros, denominados protocolos de bienes, señalando sus características y evolución desde modelos arcaicos hasta su forma definitiva, alcanzada entre finales del siglo XVI y principios del XVII, momento en el que se consagró su uso como códice principal. Para la consecución de este artículo se han utilizado los fondos documentales de la hospitalidad hispalense, conservados en diferentes archivos de la ciudad, de donde se han tomado varios ejemplos significativos que demuestran los cambios que se produjeron, tanto en su estructura interna como en su confección material, subrayando la participación de oficiales, libreros, iluminadores y calígrafos. Del mismo modo, se pone de relieve el carácter poliédrico y multifuncional que llegaron a tener, empleándose no sólo como instrumentos de control hacendístico, sino también como creadores de una identidad corporativa. La multiplicidad de hospitales en Sevilla permite observar las diferentes tipologías y características que los protocolos tuvieron, modificándose el contenido de los mismos atendiendo a las diferentes necesidades de cada institución.

Hospitals from ancient Seville had an important heritage for survival of the institution and its patients. In order to keep this heritage, the officialdom settled down several control mechanisms that would serve to manage a profitable management of their income and rights. For this purpose, they developed devising instruments able to preserve their possessions and put them into operation. This article attempts to identify the defining elements of these books, called “protocolos de bienes” (protocols goods), indicating their characteristics and evolution from archaic models until the final form. This final form was reached late sixteenth and early seventeenth century, at which time devoted use main codex of hospitality. To do this, we used the documentary collections of Seville, preserved in different archives of the city, from where they have taken several significant examples showing the changes that occurred in both its internal structure and its materials manufacturing, underlining the participation of official, booksellers, illuminators and calligraphers. Similarly, it has highlighted the multifaceted and multifunctional character of this institutions that became also a corporate identity. The multiplicity of hospitals in Sevilla had different types and features of protocols, which were modificated according to the different needs of each institution.
